6 BEAUTIFUL FAMILY INSPIRED LAYOUTS
Let your creativity flow with our May 2020 kit, the So Happy Together Collection by Simple Stories. Our awesome Design Team members created family inspired layouts to brighten your day!
1. Family is Better together by Becky Bacchus
Becky was so excited to get our May kit. She loves both the base kit and upgrades this month. She used the kit to document 2 photos using a sketch from the INSD sketch challenge posted in our Facebook group.
First, she used the beautiful abstract patterned paper as her background and added layers of stickers to build her embellishment clusters. Finishing touches included one of the charms that were one of the May upgrades and Becky also add a touch of sparkle using sequins from the March kit.
Becky added strands of twine from her stash to add a little texture to the layout and she just loves how this one turned out. If you would like to see Becky's process completing this layout be sure to subscribe to her YouTube channel.
2. Just Like Dad by Meggy Blethen
Meggy used a multi-photo sketch with the May kit. She had a hard time choosing which paper to use from the patterns because she loved them all! Eventually, she went with a more masculine background (the navy blue daisies) because she was scrapping her husband and son.
Since she used a dark color for the background paper, she made sure all of the other layers were light colors in order to bring out the photos and make everything pop off the background.

3. Stay Home Save Lives by Melissa Bierlein
Melissa used a dark navy cardstock from her stash as her base. First, she cut the house cut file and the “Our Story” paper to 11X11” and then layered them on top of the navy cardstock. The title “Stay Home Save Lives” is from Virginia Walker cut file and was cut on a Cricut using Navy cardstock.
To back the letters, she used the front sheet of the kit that shows all the different patterned papers. This saved her from cutting a corner out of each paper to back the letters! Also, she used the wood grain paper for the door portion and the house paper for the house. She used foam tape to pop up the house cut file. The chimney paper is also from the kit.
The strip at the bottom of the layout was cut from a sheet in the kit and layered on navy cardstock. Melissa changed up a couple of the squares by layering cut out squares on cardstock and using foam tape to show dimension. The photo is matted on dark blue cardstock and popped up with foam tape. She used twine from her stash to tie on the left side of the photo and hung the “choose happy” metal charm from the kit upgrades. The twine covers a part of the photo that shows a garden hose on the sidewalk leading up to the house. Clever!
Next, Melissa used strip journaling on the house. Some strips were printed on the computer and some are from the sticker sheet included in the kit. The photo also has a sticker from the kit upgrades in the bottom right corner that says “Just Us” with a gold heart. Then, she added a cluster of flowers to the right of the words and gems from the kit upgrades to the letters and flowers.
She also added various tips of wording and hearts from both the sticker sheet and the kit upgrades to the strip on the bottom of the layout. Lastly, Melissa added the “Be Happy Be Bright Be You” sticker from the kit upgrades below the title and added a tab at the top of the photo that says “time together”.
It’ll take some determination to pull off such a busy layout! This one will put your crafting skills to the test! Check more of Melissa's family inspired layouts on her blog!
4.Family Layout by Samantha Taylor
Sam loves everything about this kit. The colors are amazing and she loves the family togetherness theme of the kit. She thought it would be perfect to scrap a few photos from a summer trip to her parents. They live in one state, her parents in another, and her sister and niece live in another state. They don't get to all be together that often, so spending time together isn't something they take for granted.
She loves all the different relationships in these photos. Between the core kit and the upgrades, there was the perfect sticker and group of embellishments to tell the stories of each photo.
5.Meant to Shine Layout
This kit is so great for celebrating different relationships and family. This photo is from one of Sam's niece's home volleyball games this past season. She's a senior this year, so it was her last season and they will all miss watching her play. So Sam made sure to document this important event and the May kit papers are perfect for it!
Her niece is an amazing young lady and Sam loves that this kit helps spotlight that. The "you were meant to shine" sticker from the upgrades was really what she ended up building this whole layout around. What a perfect sentiment!

6. Masked Layout by Marci Bensing
We ARE all in this together and have to do "our part". Marci created a layout using the May Collection of her husband and her in their masks created and sewn by Marci's sister in law. The May kit worked perfectly with these photos along with some assistance from a sketch.
Marci started with the top and bottom of the layout using the paper in the kit to create borders and border strips. Then, she went to the middle of the layout working around the 2 photos that she placed in the middle of the page. This creates her page base. Also, she went around the page embellishing . She LOVED the Heidi Swapp metal pieces and highlighted that piece from her stash with alpha letter beads.
Marci also added the royal blue "bling" around the page and added a small "pop". Some of the embellishments have pop dots behind them for added dimension.
Here is the layout/sketch:
Finally, Marci used her Silhouette Cameo to cut the "Masked" title. Get to see more family inspired layouts on Marci's blog now!
